Before we talk about leadership analysis of Putin, let’s start with what leadership really means to me. In my opinion, leadership is the process to know yourself and your people altogether in order to carry out the roles and responsibilities. I think, leadership was born through experiences and it’s a never-ending process of self-study training.
Vladimir Putin is probably the most popular and phenomenal Russian leader there has ever been. Especially when he became Person of the Year 2007 based on TIME Magazines version and again in 2014 he was nominated as a runner-up of TIME Person of the Year. It makes him arguably the most popular world leader today. He is well-known as charming and intimidating independent player. Putin turned millions eyes on him after his annexation of Crimea.
Shockingly, in 2014, he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by a Russian advocacy group that promotes peace, the International Academy of Spiritual Unity and Cooperation of Peoples of the World. How was that even possible? According to the National Geographic, Putin earned the nomination for his part in orchestrating a solution through non-military means to chastise the Syrian government for its use of chemical weapons. The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons later confirmed the Syrian government’s claims: It was Syrian militants that used the chemical weapons, not Assad.
So now, let’s dig deeper his leadership style. One word, Autocratic.
Autocratic leadership is a form of management where one leader typically has complete control over a work area or project. An autocratic style of leadership can be effective where decisions need to be made quickly. The sole responsibility rests with the leader, and he makes the decision without the need to consult others because Putin believes that it is an “Autocrat of All the Russians”. Even though he is typical authoritarian individual, the fact is he has been repeatedly elected by large majorities in the competitive elections against Westerns backed and funded candidates which means his popularity was able to win his people and his autocratic style can be attributed to his genes as well as to his innate personality.
His work ethic, discipline, and ruthless focus, whether in sports, his pursuit of academic success, or his ideas for his country, are worth emulating. Meaning that his dedication to his country can be seen as the form of his strong nationalism and patriotism which is everything he did he dedicated it to his country, Russia. Let’s say he is an extremely patriotic and loyal person as well as an excellent executioner for his country. He did it with extremely high speed under his strong character to bring back Novorossiya or New Russia.
His goals are very clear. He wants high living standards and safe, free and comfortable life for the country, He wants a mature democracy and a developed civil society, he wants to strengthen Russia’s place in the world. But his main goal is to bring about a noticeable rise in his people’s prosperity. Putin understands the strength in a unified Russia by pursuing one motherland, one people, and one future.
